History of Château Lastours

Located between Albi, Toulouse, and Montauban, Château Lastours is a former family estate in the heart of the Gaillac appellation. Archives dating back to 1579 already attest to the presence of the Faramond family on the estate, reflecting a long-standing winemaking tradition.

Near the Tarn River, the vineyard now extends over 60 hectares surrounding the property. Heir to the region’s rich winegrowing history shaped in particular by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Saint-Michel of Gaillac and the Counts of Toulouse, the estate benefits from gravelly and siliceous soils that bring balance and finesse to wines of elegant complexity.

Today, Louis de Faramond, the latest generation of this family lineage, continues this family adventure alongside a young and dynamic team, with the ambition of combining tradition, modernity, and conviviality in this historic place.

Travellers' review - Château Lastours

  • 3 days in Gaillac

A beautiful region to discover its wines. We were remarkably welcomed to the DELGAS hotel by our smiling host Emilie, who took great care of us. The house is pleasant and comfortable. The visit to Chateau Lastours was very interesting, with a guide who knew her subject very well. The visit to the LABASTIDE estate was a little less interesting. The restaurant au fil des saisons is fine. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay.

  • The Estate’s Wines

Whether you enjoy red, white, rosé, sparkling, or sweet wines, the Château Lastours vineyard offers something to satisfy every taste.

Louis de Faramond continues the family legacy by cultivating historic grape varieties from the region, such as Braucol, Loin-de-l’Œil, Mauzac, and Duras. He also grows southern grape varieties such as Syrah and Sauvignon, which are particularly well suited to the estate’s gravelly soils.

Each year, the art of winemaking and blending lies in finding the right balance between these grape varieties in order to create harmonious wines that remain true to the style and identity of Château Lastours.
