History of the Domaine de Castellane

The Champagne De Castellane was created in 1895 by Vicomte Florens de Castellane, heir of a family dating back to the Counts of Arles and Provence. The red cross of Saint André which adorns the bottles is a tribute paid by the Viscount to the oldest military regiment in Champagne. Like Mumm's Cordon Rouge, this cross became a symbol of luxury and celebration before the first World War during the "Belle Epoque".

Another strong symbol of the brand, the water tower which adjoins the railway lines and covers the New Art buildings where the house sits. From its 66m viewpoint, it overlooks a traditional champagne style museum, 9 kms of wine cellars and, above all, Champagne Avenue where the main historical houses are installed.

Travellers' review - Domaine de Castellane

  • Great weekend for two

An unforgettable stay: - The "Soul of Champagne" workshop at Domaine J. de Telmont, perfect for opening your taste buds and discovering the subtleties of champagne, with Lucile's friendly welcome and comprehensive explanations. - The vineyard tour in the folkloric deu-deuche and in the company of Philippe Martin, who is as at ease on his hillsides as he is on the benches of the Assemblée Nationale, and who knows everything there is to know about his vines. - Overnight at Clos Saint Georges, with an excellent welcome and a succulent dinner. The property has enormous charm. - The mountain-bike tour along the banks of the Marne with Olivier Stennier, with beautiful views before and after crossing Epernay, and the visit to Philippe Benard's cellars, with many explanations and always a warm welcome. Special mention for the meal shared with Olivier and his delicious homemade quiche lorraine! - The Domaine de Castellane, a group visit in a more touristy format, where you don't learn much that's new (thanks to the explanations given on previous visits), but which is well worth a visit for the size of the cellars and the historical perspectives offered by the tour. A faultless tour, thanks to Vinotrip and the professionals who welcomed us and shared their passion with us.
