Domaine de la Ville Rouge - History
It’s in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, on the left bank of the Rhône, that you will discover the Domaine de la Ville Rouge and its wines with a unique and authentic character. Created in 1919 by Paul Girard, this domain is a family business whose know-how is passed on from father to son.
Today, and since 2006, the wine-making process is entirely made on the domain. Moreover, you will have the chance to taste certified organic wines because the domain is working in organic farming since 2009 and cultivates its grapes according to the principles of biodynamics since 2013, guaranteeing respect for nature and the different terroirs.

The wines
The Domaine de la Ville Rouge has a great collection of wines, mainly white and red. The harvest is done entirely by hand. In each bottle, only grapes, no other product is added except sulfur to prevent oxidation of the wine.
The wines from the Crozes-Hermitage are produced on soils composed of thick layers of rolled pebbles, mixed with red clay. The white wines are produced from the Roussanne and Marsanne grape varieties and the red wines from Syrah, a variety that guarantees fruity, spicy and floral aromatic complexity and tannins that structure the whole.
The white and red wines of the Saint Joseph appellation are exclusively produced from Syrah giving powerful and balanced wines with peppery aromas. The plot is in the municipality of Tournon / Rhône and its only component is decaying granite.
Finally, the domain also produces some local wines, IGP certified, whose grape varieties are grown on clay hills, which gives to white wines expecially very developed floral and fruity notes.

Activities at the property
When you come to the Domaine de la Ville Rouge, you will share a friendly moment with the winemaker who will show you around the domain and the winery and you will learn all the stages of wine making, starting with the harvest, to finish with bottling through fermentation. Then you will have a tasting, a moment of sharing where you can taste the wines of the domain. Finally, you will not leave empty handed because you will be offered a bottle of red wine as a souvenir!
