History and Wines of the Château Tertre

« Château du Tertre » is of ancient origins dating back to to the twelth century and the 52-hectare vineyard has remained unchanged since 1855. It is in the nineteenth century that Tertre's wines become worldly famous owing to the 1855 classification making Tertre a fifth Margaux « Grand Cru Classé ». In 1997, the Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma bought the estate. he invested significantly and needles to say it did not take long for him to restore Tertre's character and nobility.
The vineyard is located on the highest peakof the Margaux appellation and on one of the highest butts (hillock)situated in the Medoc gravel area. The Château uses the gravity-flow method for filling its wooden fermenting tubs. In 2008 they also fitted in low volume concret truncated vats which enable the separate vinification of their best plots. The wine is then matured for18 months in French oak barrels, half of which are renewed every year.
The grape variety Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure and concentration. The round and supple Merlot offers its silkiness during the final blending. The Cabernet Franc distinguise itself with its rich bouquet of spicy notes. Finally, the late maturing Petit Verdot completes the aromatic palette.

"Le Château du Tertre" with its refined decor warmly welcomes you with stunning views of the vineyards. The 5 guest rooms are comfortably equipped with a private bathroom and a Wifi connection.

Travellers' review - Château du Tertre

  • Excellent stay in every respect

This stay exceeded our expectations. Thanks to Jade and everyone else for the wonderful welcome at the Chateau du Tertre. The suite was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The visit to chateau Giscours was a great addition too. We lost no time (only 2 hours) in the company of our friendly host Michael. The gourmet meal at Le Savoie restaurant was excellent. Great golf course and restaurant too. We can't wait to discover another of Vinotrip's stays.

  • Super stay golf wines .

Stay at Château du Tertre for 2 days with cellar tour and wine tasting. Breakfasts in the château kitchen with a dedicated cook. The green fee and meal at the Médoc golf course left us with excellent memories. This golf course is one of the finest in France, with greens worthy of the finest championships. Thank you to our children for offering us this enchanted interlude!
