History of the Romaningue Château

Originally a base of the Templar knights in the 16th century, the Romaningue estate is a marvel in itself: 80 hectares of quality vineyards, vines almost 50 years-old and unique accommodation options such as treehouses, bubble rooms and caravans. The entrance to the estate is by a winding path through the woods and past a pond, over the cellars and past a 15th century tower. The estate has 5 spectacular treehouses, each housing 2-6 people.
Bicycles are available to get to your treehouse, where you can access your room with rope ladders. In 5 minutes you and your entire luggage will be at the top, nestled 10 metres from the ground amidst the foliage of hundred-year-old trees. There is no water or electricity but the treehouses each come with their own dry toilets. Bath facilities are available as chalets near the welcome desk, along with all the towels and necessary equipment. The treehouses are perfectly furnished to make your stay as comfortable as possible: pillows, comforters, sheets, candle lanterns, oil stoves, board games, water, toilet paper, rubbish bags, matches…

Travellers' review - Chateau de la Romaningue

  • An unexpected interlude in the Bordeaux region

2nd VINOTRIP stay after enjoying the 1st stay in Burgundy. A very pleasant weekend in Saint-Emilion, despite a storm at the end of the 1st day which made us fear for the night in the cabin, but everything went relatively smoothly. In the early afternoon, we paid a visit to the saffron factory (which also produces pepper and goji berries), where we made a wonderful discovery of this little corner of the countryside and its hostess. Lodging in a hut where it is necessary to give advance warning to people prone to vertigo or with mobility problems, as access to the hut is not easy. Dry toilets in the accommodation, but showers are a 10/15 minute walk away in our case, which can be a problem for some people. The dinner in the basket was a great success, even if the weather wasn't right for us to take full advantage of the terrace. A small storm lamp is given to you on arrival (it would be advisable to provide accommodation with a ceiling attachment point to illuminate the area). The staff at Château de la Romaningue are pleasant and helpful. Visits to Châteaux Soutard and Champion went well and were interesting. We preferred Château Champion for its authentic family atmosphere. The basket lunch in the courtyard of Château Soutard was great, with sunshine and friendly staff. Bike hire was a problem, as we were too busy to collect the bikes from the hire company. A pleasant stay thanks to VINOTRIP's good organization. When can we expect the 3rd trip... ?

  • Wines produced by the Chateau de la Romaningue

A balanced mix of the three grape varieties on the estate (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc) gives a pleasant fruity wine. A stay in the Romaningue treehouses is the perfect opportunity to discover and savour the wines!

  • Things to do

The estate is the ideal location for peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of life, allowing you to relax and explore the vineyards at your own pace. They are located at the top of a calcareous-clay plateau that receives a lot of sunshine. The vineyards have been tenderly cared for by skilled winemakers for generations.
